Naomi volunteers with her local community creche in Balbriggan, thanks to a placement by Prosper Fingal.

Naomi started volunteering through a work placement experience programme with Prosper Fingal, an organisation that provides services and supports to adults with an intellectual disability in North County Dublin. It may have started as just a two week stint, but she hasn’t left yet! Naomi volunteers with her local community creche in Balbriggan.

She’s in twice a week helping out with the toddlers, playing with them, doing circle time with them, and her favourite, helping them with arts and crafts. Naomi loves that the arts change with the holidays, and she helps kids learn about St Patrick’s Day or Easter, and more. There’s always something new in the Wobbler Room.

She says her favourite part about volunteering is the fun-loving spirit of the kids at the creche. “I love kids!” Naomi says. “They’re so nice to play with.”

“I would tell someone to try volunteering,” she says, “It’s a good idea and I feel good.”

This National Volunteering Week, we’re celebrating the diversity of volunteers who make Ireland what it is. No matter your age, race, abilities, or status, we honor your place in the community and the volunteering that you, uniquely, do.

Thank you to Naomi for sharing her story. Please email [email protected] if you’d like to share yours!
